Mrs. Mitchell's Best Book Pick... "Maniac Magee"

Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli is a book is about a young boy who runs away from home.  It talks a lot about diversity and differences.  The boy makes great friends, helps an elderly man learn to read and makes a difference in the communities of blacks and whites.  I would recommend this book because it is exciting, easy to get into and opens your eyes to racism.
